New book: Environmental Modelling, Software and Decision Support

The book “Environmental Modelling, Software and Decision Support:  state of the art and new perspective” can be preorered. Edited by Anthony J. Jakeman, Alexey A. Voinov, Andrea E. Rizzoli, Serena H. Chen it collects the outcomes of many workshops which were held at iEMSs 2006.

The book deals with the integrated approach to the complex and multi-disciplinary nature of environmental problems. In fact, modelling and software have become key instruments used to promote sustainability and improve environmental decision processes, especially through systematic integration of various knowledge and data and their ability to foster learning and help make predictions. This book presents the current state-of-the-art in environmental modelling and software and identifies the future challenges in the field.

New book: Monitoring, Simulation, and Management of Visitor Landscapes

Conventional methods used in the planning and management of human-landscape interactions fall far short of the needs of today’s land management professionals. The book Monitoring, Simulation, and Management of Visitor Landscapes, edited by Randy Gimblett and Hans Skov-Petersen, published by University of Arizona Press, presents a growing body of applied research that provides decision makers with tools to maintain the ecological integrity of public places by evaluating the impacts of humans in various landscapes across space and time. New Book Series: Developments in Integrated Environmental Assessment

The IDEA book series addresses the increasing importance for interdisciplinary systems research that relates to assessing policy and resource management options that could lead to improved sustainability outcomes. It aims to capture current trends in, and promote the advancement of: new intellectual tools and processes that integrate consideration of multiple issues, interest groups, disciplines and scales in addressing the wide-ranging impacts of controllable and uncontrollable drivers on socioeconomic, ecological, hydrological and institutional performance.

The first  books that appeared in this new series are:
