* Information standards and specifications
* Metadata schemas and application profiles
* Multilingual vocabularies, taxonomies, glossaries and thesauri
* Metadata generation, harvesting, and exchange
* Knowledge acquisition, elicitation and extraction
* Infrastructures, systems and services for knowledge organisation
* Knowledge repositories and archives
* Ontology approaches, models, theories, and languages
* Ontology development, integration, lifecycle, and evaluation
* Management of large ontology-driven knowledge bases

1st Call for Papers

Scope

Provide a comprehensiveoverview and a discussion platform for recent advances and trends currentlyunder development in this cross-cutting field.

Call for papers

Papers dealing with development and concepts ofgeneric and pervasive frameworks, techniques and issues including systemidentification theory and practice, model conception, model integration, modeland/or software evaluation, sensitivity and uncertainty assessment, visualization,scale and regionalization issues are welcome.

Suitable topics for presentations will include:

  • key criteria in selecting methods of uncertainty assessment for different model structures and modelling problems;
  • practical strategies for uncertainty analysis given environmental models with very large parameter sets, including spatial dimensions or high computing loads;
  • development of new methods for explicitly conveying uncertainties in environmental modelling including the use of Bayesian probability theory and new hybrid approaches;
  • quantifying environmental model responses to uncertainties in parameter values and input data;
  • space-time scale effects on uncertainty assessment of integrated environmental models.
  • Model and parameter identification and propagation of uncertainty through modelling

Well documented case studies and applications are also welcome.

Important deadlines

Full paper submissions: February 28th, 2010.

Enviroinfo 2009

Dear Colleague,
this is an announcement of the 23rd international conference "Environmental Informatics" taking place
from the 09th till 11th September 2009 in Berlin.

The EnviroInfo 2009 conference is a meeting place for experts and practitioners on leading ICT technologies to make the world a better place for living. It aims to report about state-of-the-art applications of ICT as well as newest developing trends in the field of environmental informatics. It will cover cross-cutting topics like applications of geographical information systems, environmental modelling and simulation, risk management, material and energy flow management, climate change, tools and database applications and other aspects with regard to the main topic ICT and the environment. The EnviroInfo 2009 conference will have a special focus on the topic “ICT for industrial environmental protection” and thus will reflect on practical problems and the need for an adequate IT-assistance for this application field. A dedicated emphasis is also laid on the requirements of small and medium-sized enterprises and their need for a proper and easy to use IT-assistance.
We will have more than 130 presentations from about 25 countries worldwide.
You find the preliminary programme at
http://www.enviroinfo2009.org/programme .
Keynotes and an interesting evening programme in Berlin will complete the confernce schedule.
Note that the early bird deadline with reduced conference fee will be closed at 31st July.

Best Regards
Volker Wohlgemuth

Workshop on ICT for Natural Resource Management (INRM 2009)
We would like to draw your attention to the workshop "ICT for Natural Resource Management" (INRM 2009), to be held in Amman, Jordan from November 18 to November 19, 2009.
The aim of this workshop is to foster the development a new community of  researchers, practitioners and stakeholders of Geomatics and Enviromatics application (ICT for the Environment) in Jordan and the Middle East region.

It is well known that there have been tremendous efforts in many countries towards the development of innovative ICT solutions for the environment. However, we think that the Middle East region has not yet had enough benefits from such efforts, and that a new scientific community can be of great use for the whole region. Therefore, it is our intention to bring several speakers from European Framework Research programs to the workshop and join them with regional speakers and stakeholders.

The workshop is organised in a consorted effort of individuals and organisations, including German Jordanian University (GJU), Hochschule für Technik und Wirtschaft des Saarlandes (HTW), the Jordanian Ministry of ICT and the Jordanian Ministry of Environment.

We attach the Call for Papers. If you are interested to present a paper, please do note the deadline of September 1 for an Extended Abstract (1.5 to 2 pages).

Please feel free to redistribute this email.

Yours,

Dr. Ralf Denzer
