A forthcoming special issue of Environmental Modelling and Software "Assessment and Evaluation of Environmental Models and Software" is in progress. Issue editors are Brian S. McIntosh, Jaroslav Mysiak, Georgii Alexandrov, Keith Matthews, Martin van Ittersum, editor in chief is Tony Jakeman.
The primary aim of this special issue is to act as a catalyst to stimulate debate about how we should assess and evaluate environmental models and software through bringing together work in technical assessment with emerging research concerned with answering questions about the use and usefulness of these technologies. What concepts can be used to frame assessment and evaluation? What methods are suitable? What do we know about the use and impact of environmental models and software in policy and management both empirically and theoretically?
More information about the goals of this special issue of EMS, details about submission and deadlines can be found here.
UPDATE 28.1.10: The Assessment and Evaluation Thematic Issue is now well advanced having attracted nine papers covering a range of user and technology issues and perspectives. Two of the papers submitted have been fully accepted and the remainder are in the final stages of review and revision.
