Peter C. Young, Professor Emeritus Department Environmental Science, University of Lancaster, UK; School of Environment and Society, Australian National University, Canberra; School of Electrical Engineering and Telecommunications, University of New South Wales, Australia. Prof. Young has wide experience in various areas of science and engineering. He developed the Data-Based Mechanistic (DBM) approach to modelling and has applied this in various areas of study, including hydrology and climate change. He also pioneered the use Non-Minimal State Space (NMSS) methods and their use in Proportional-Integral Plus (PI+) control system design, which has been applied to various systems, including, most recently, a study of emission control for atmospheric carbon dioxide stabilization. Currently, he is involved in research on real-time flood forecasting; State-Dependent Parameter (SDP) estimation for modelling nonlinear stochastic, dynamic systems; the control of SDP systems; and NMSS-based model predictive control for constrained input/output systems.
