The Marine and Coastal Systems Unit of Deltares (research institute of the Dutch Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management) is looking for an ecologist
Safeguarding and improving the marine & coastal environment
Sustainable exploitation and use of the marine and coastal environment requires measures and decision-making in complex situations, involving many conflicting interests. Research has to be undertaken at an integral, system level and requires a thorough understanding of the physical, chemical and ecological interactions in water bodies and soil, in response to natural or human-induced changes.
At Deltares our role is to provide sound scientific information and specialist advice on complex and integral marine ecosystem issues, in the context of socio-economic aspects and (inter)national environmental regulations. Our projects are wide-ranging and multidisciplinary and include topics such as the implementation of environmental regulations (e.g. the Marine Strategy Directive), assessment of ecosystem health, impact assessments and eco-engineering.
Within the Marine and Coastal Systems Unit we have a vacancy for a Researcher/consultant marine ecology modelling (m/f)
We are looking for an enthusiastic candidate with an appropriate PhD in aquatic ecosystem modelling, with up to 5 years experience. You should have knowledge of the development and application of ecological models (e.g. Delft3D) for marine and coastal management (e.g. eutrophication, benthic-pelagic interactions, carrying capacity, etc.) and/or impact assessement studies.
Furthermore, you should have experience and demonstrated affinity for working on multidisciplinary projects in coastal and transitional waters. You should speak English fluently, and Dutch preferably (or be willing to learn Dutch). The position will be based in Delft, the Netherlands.
